Today was the last regular lesson and we were back at Jingletown, Studio B in Oakland. This is definitely my favorite of the handfull of rooms we've worked in. The SSL is obviously awesome, but I also feel like the layout of the room definitely clicks with me. Anyway, today's lesson was spent on mastering. I was excited for this lesson because mastering is a really fascinating process to me, but I didn't really know what it looked like. We brought up a couple songs in protools--a reference track and a track Zack was mastering himself. We used frequency analyzer and an EQ and started trying to make the track being mastered look more like the reference track. Zack gave me some time to work on it myself and it's something I could see myself diving deeper into.
