This week we were back at Hyde Street, Studio C. After last class's crash course in analog automation, we focused compelely on automation within protools. Zack ran down different automation modes and the extent of parameters that can be effected by automation before letting me loose on an eletronic song to write automation myself. The basics like pans and volume were easy to understand, but we also got into plug-in automation which gave us the ability to alter more suble aspects of the mix like the threshold of a compressor to slam a vocal as it peaks in intensity. One thing I realized about myself is I'm going to have to really push myself to come up with creative uses for automation, so that's something I'll need to practice.
