Zack booked time at a studio called The Grill in Emeryville for this week's lesson. The Grill is mostly devoted to hip-hop so its facilities are pretty small (but super cozy). The main room with the SSL console wasn't up to speed, so we were the smaller control room next to a tiny vocal booth. None of this mattered for us though since we spent the lesson going over plugins. I really enjoyed this lesson since I really get into the effects side of things. Zack explained how plugins are setup and deployed in ProTools, how the different types work within the system, and how they effect hardware requirements. I was also really interested how someone would use plugins during tracking and how they play into the use of ourboard gear, which Zack had a lot to say about. All and all a significant lesson.
