I had a really good lesson with Phil today, and we discussed different miking techniques used in most studios to date. He explained to me his preferences, and the importance to getting the right mic placements, especially in regards to the drum set. We talked about how some techniques are more practical than others, and how some take way too long to set up or perfect when it comes down to actually recording someone while on the clock. He has a few great techniques and one of my personal favorites is the use of Pressure Zone Mic's, used to pick up ambient sounds, often placed in the corners of the studio booth. Phil tells me he is looking to buy a Ribbon mic, and they have come a long ways since they were first introduced.
