Last Wednesday I had my 2nd Lesson with Mark at Fastback Studios. I'm feeling more comfortable in the studio now. Before, I felt like an outsider looking in, I'm now feeling more at home, like I belong there. I think part of it is because Mark is such a great teacher. He does his best to exlain things in a way that I can understand, and he makes it a point to try to make me think about WHY things are the way they are, as opposed to just telling me how things are. Anytime I ask him a question, he does his best to answer it. And if he doesn't know the answer, he tells me that he doesn't know, and he looks it up. He never makes me feel like a loser for asking questions, because we all start as beginners.
Lesson 2 was all about electricity. Mark showed me around the studio yet again, but this time the emphasis of the tour was all on the electrical components. He showed me different types of wires and cords, explained how they all work, and explained how the studio is laid out in terms of the flow of electrical currents. This was all far more in depth than I ever thought we'd be going in this mentorship, and it's only week 2! I'm loving that we're starting with the basics and mechanics of how the studio works, and slowly working ourselves up to music production. It makes more sense to get a solid foundation of the scientific principles that allow the studio to run smoothly before jumping in the chair and mixing audio. Although, I must say, I am definitely excited for when that day arrives.
