Electrons- protons+. Atoms electrons lossely attched= this means that they can flow to the next. An atom that loses an electron is said to be + charged. An atom with more electrons than protons is - charged. The moe + atoms or - electrons you have, the stronger the attraction for the other. + and - charged groups attract each other. Total Attraction= CHARGE. Best conductors of electricity= silver, gold, copper. Best Insulators= rubber, plastic, glass. RESISTANCE. Oppositon to electricity flow. Resistance is the measure of resistance to the flow of electricity measured in OHMS. Resistance in wire depends on how thick and long it is and what its made of. Thickness in a wire is called GAUGE. The smaler the gauge the bigger the wire. VOLTAGE. Voltage measures the amount of electromotive force. Electronic Circuit= device that provides a path for electrons to flow. The higher the amount of pressure the higher the voltage. Named after scientist Alessandro Volta, a single volt is a unit of measure similar to a decibal. CURRENT. Current is measured in amperes abbreviated amps. Current is dependent on voltage to an extent. The ampere is a measure of amount of electric charge passing a point in an electric circuit per unit of time. Electricity is the flow free electrons from atom to atom. OHMS LAW= Voltage= Current x Resistance. When a bridge is created, the electrons begin moving quickly to the positive charged atoms. Circuit~Bridge= link or bridge between - and + area. Short Circuit= made up of singular electronic components such as transistors, capacitors, diodes, resistors, and inductors connected by conductive material through which electric current can flow. PCB= Printed Circuit Board. Two major electronic circuits= Analog/ Digital. Analog Circuit= circuit that carries a voltage that is either continuous or changing, 2 cata- series and parallel. Series= one goes out they all go out. Parallel= equal amount of voltage distributed to components. Digital Circuit= transmits info. Direct Circuit= flows electrons in one direction (found in batteries, solar pannels, etc). AC-Alternating Current= type of electron that is present when you plug something into a wall socket. Flowin both directions, change in both directions 50-60times per second. Standard US Voltage= 120V= 60 cycles per second. Standard Europe Voltage= 220V= 50 cycles per second.
