Hey there guys, Matt again at Sky Feather Studios
Our second week back together brought in a new artist and general conversation with Alex. Our first session on Tuesday brought in more business with Bronte, AKA Northwe$t B1, his brother Geo, and their father. We recorded Bronte and Gio for about two and a half hours, working on one song each. I was really impressed by these guys's studio presence, they looked very comfortable in the booth with Alex.
During the recording sessions I got to talking with the three of them and sharing experience. Being completely new to this field still, breaking the ice made it much easier to put out my own ideas on the mix. When Bronte had finished his recordings and came back to critique the mix, I suggested a few touches in mixing that would really highlight unique harmonies and background dubs from the vocal track, just based on my musical taste and experience. They all really loved that one idea and decided to use the same effect across the verse. Very encouraging and oddly reasuring. I hope to have more people in the studio like these guys, they were respectful and made it easy to glean information from Alex during live tracking.
Outside the sesion, Alex and I talked plug-ins and mixing techniques, started reading into Chapter 3 of the book, and I got to witness the studio sign hip-hop artist Jaypeeze on as their first on their start-up label. A lot of industry watching and familiarization in all this week. Starting to feel a little more like I have my hands directly in the business.
It can only go up from here. :)
