What's good fam?! I'm pretty excited right now. For those of ya'll who didn't know I'm in a hip-hop duo called The Hashassins & we just finalized a collaboration with Eric G, who is a producer signed to 9th Wonder's record label, Jamla Records! 9th Wonder is one of my favorite, if not my favorite producer & he is one of the most influential pioneers in hip-hop production. So the fact that I'm working with one of his close affiliates is a huge inspiration! Eric G is also a part of the Soul Council, lead by 9th Wonder which is a conglogmerate of producers who have came together to forge the sound of Jamla Records. So they are pretty much the go to team when it comes to production for Jamla's recording artists. They stick to that old school, boom bap sound with a soulful feeling & that's what I love. The beat my partner & I decided on was a joint called 'Price Of Luv' which has a jazzy vibe & old school drums. I'm in love with this beat. The vocals on the track that he sampled are real unique & it gives it a certain vibe that I can't get enough of. But other than that, things are going great. Still hard at work trying to progress as much as possible with my mixing & production.
I broke my headphones that I was using to record a month or two back & I was finally able to get some new ones at the beginning of the week so I've been recording like crazy! I've noticed some unwanted room noise though in my recordings so that's something I'm looking to fix... but the good thing about that is before I didn't even notice the natural reverb so it shows that my ear is getting stronger to the attention of detail. Speaking of that I've actually noticed a huge difference in the last couple of months. When I'm listening to a track that I haven't heard in years it's almost like I'm listening to it for the first time because there is so much more that I notice about the mix & that I can appreciate. It's a beautiful thing, really.
Now I'm about to cash out 'cause I'm heading to the studio tomorrow morning with Doug. Can't wait. Talk to ya'll soon.
