How ya'll doin? I'm great! Making progress in my quality of mixes. I'm still way behind on my blogs; I'm actually in the Mastering chapter at this moment but I figured I'd talk a little bit about MIDI since that's what Chapter 16 is about. Coming into this course I knew very little about audio production; I'm a hip-hop artist so I knew the very basics of the recording & the creative process but I had no idea how extensive it really is. I also knew the basics of MIDI because I've had a Native Instruments Maschine for almost two years, so this chapter was a breeze to me. It was very interesting, too.
Making beats is one of my favorite things to do, if I do say so myself my emcee skills definitely top my beat making skills but I still love to do it. Taking a sample off of vinyl & turning it into something fresh & new is honestly amazing. Can't get enough of it. That's actually what I was doing right before this, haha. I chopped up a Miles Davis record & had this jazzy vibe goin' with some Just Blaze drums.
I'm getting together with my mentor (Doug Wallace) this weekend. He's having a band coming through to track some drums. I'm pretty excited to see that process & get some more experience under my belt. Talk to ya'll next time. Peace!
