To start off this blog I will be covering my first day in a live studio gaining new knowledge about my future career! Today start off with me getting to know a few face around my new work place, Phatbuddhaproductions. After a quick intern meeting I was place in a live client recording session with a local engineer (Ross) who was working with a hiphop artist, Promise. I've worked with Pro Tools a little but nothing like Ross was! Seeing what really happens behind the scenes of recording a song or making of an album made me think, WOW! Knowing I was going to sitting in on an hour long studio session i decided to jot some note about what different techniques Ross was applying and also what different plugins he was experimenting with. Spending a good amount of time in a small room with an engineer and an artist I felt the connection through the two that gave them that bond which made the process flow smoothly! After asking a few questions here and there I felt more confident with grasping more information about whats being applied. Session two was even more interesting! Moving from a hiphop artist now we are working with an actually band recording but know their wasn’t a physical bank in the studio it was just some recording previous of this session/observation. This group was more rock I would say influences of Deep Purple. Ross was the engineer for this project as well. Watching him move from different genres was quite interesting! have more than just vocal tracks to mess with Ross now had to work with vocal tracks, drum tracks, bass tracks and much more. I did notice how he was still using the same plugins like echoes, auto tuners and many more. This session was more to my likings because it wasn’t a paying client in session but gave me more time to talk on one with Ross and pick his brain on his recording and mixing raw track the way that works best for him in simplest terms his techniques! Over my first day was great and finally seeing what goes on for an engineer and what tasks need to be fulfilled in a timely manner Im will saw I cant wait for future lesson and more obsersavtion sessions to come!!
