For these two sessions, we had practice bands in most of the days but were in the control room after setting up the practice rooms. One of the songs the engineer was mixing was for a rock band that came in to record a few weeks ago. One particular thing that stuck out to me was a part he wanted to put in. The theme of the song was someone the band knew was having a problem getting a hold of a girl that he liked. Well the engineer had an idea to bring in one of his female clients to record her as if she was talking on the phone with someone who never talked back. What was cool about it was he made it sound like it was a phone call by cutting the bass out of the recording and boosting the mids and high mids and dropping a little of the highs.
