For these sessions, it was another practice band, but I got to sit in on a mastering session. It was a little hard to understand exactly what he was doing other than going through and listening in on every single detail of ever track. But I did learn that when you are mixing, you want to try and keep your overall level at about -3dB to -7dB for headroom. When the song is being mastered, the engineer will use a limiter to bring it up to -2dB, bringing it up to 0dB will cause distortion in the song.
