This week I learned that tube mics are used for melodic vocals because they bring out smooth sounding vocals. Condenser mics are powered by 48+ phantom power and are very sensitive to the sounds around it. It would not be a good idea to record your vocals using a dynamic microphone without a preamp because they are not as sensitive and are mostly used for instruments. Most major hip hop artists use the popular Neumann U87 microphone.
