Session 4. Posted on 2013-02-10 by Antonio Rodriguez

Week four was what I have been waiting for. This week was quite exciting and filled with hands on learning experiences. This week we discussed microphones. All the different kinds and each individual use of each. In order to hear the individual feedback from each microphone, Brett and I set up a little experiment. We put the microphones in groups, condensers and dynamics. We hooked up four at a time, placed in front of a guitar amp, and connected as needed to pre amps. Brett played a little section of a song on his guitar so we had something to base the individual mics off of. It was interesting to hear how each microphone played out, some so different than others, and some pretty close to the same. It really depended on the microphone, obviously, to conclude the kind of sound we would get whether it be dark, bright, raw, high def, etc. This was a really cool and fun session. It's gonna take some time for me to understand and learn what mics should be used for what, but until then I will keep trying my best and studying them.

On a side note, I was reminded of how much I wanted to learn about audio engineering this session. When I was watching and listening to Brett get the guitar amp right, as he played through some songs, it was then I knew this is what I want to do and keep learning. Hearing him or anyone play in the future, reminds me of my love for music and makes me want to keeo learning to be the best audio engineer I can and make quite the future out of it.
