Branding Myself. Posted on 2012-06-25 by KC

About a month ago during my interview for the Recording Connection apprenticeship at House Studio DC an interesting topic was brought up, one that I had not initially thought about. I was merely excited to learn the technology and get hands on with all the equipment in the studio. Blinded by fancy consoles, switches, knobs, and blinking lights with the sole desire to start pressing buttons, I forgot an essential prinipal I would need to function in the music industry - business and people skills. Not only was this program going to teach me how to refine my technical skills to produce wonderful sounds, but develop my skills to win business and become successful. A foundational aspect of a business/entity is a name. Therefore, I am dedicating this first blog entry to the effort and thought behind branding myself. I chose to use a "stage" name and develop the recording engineer in me as an alter ego. She is not a part of my normal 9-5 desk job, but the muse that appears on nights and weekends. 'Tata' and 'Ata' have both been nicknames of mine and I enjoy the go getter "atta girl" spirit behind the name Ata. I chose the name 'AtaMuse'.

I developed my Facebook Fan page, Twitter account, and Vimeo page. Vimeo had a better intergration with other social networks from what I have seen so far, and decided to go with that instead of YouTube. My current LinkedIn account is setup for my current profession and career of Information Security. I plan to add my experience to that account once my skills become more refined. For the purposes of LinkedIn I would like to be able to show my entire skill set and not just the AtaMuse piece of me. Branding myself was fun, and has definitely become painless with reliance on social media. I look forward to watching my 'likes' increase as time goes on - 10 so far!

To be continued...
