This week my mentor yudu showed me the process of mixing since ive been doing the whole engineering thing for a while, so he decided to jump ahead in the lessons a little. I thought i knew how and what you have to do to mix, but when he sat down and saw what i did he said i knew the very general basis of mixing, but i dont know the process. I now know that you have to seperate the tracks into sections and do all the tracks individually instead of trying to do all the tracks at once because you end up making the song too loud and sounds muffled. You start with the bass and drums and move up so that you can create headroom for you vocals, leads, and other things you want to bring out. This now creates a whole new way to mixing to me that ive used on a couple of my songs. I will say its a little hard to figure out how low to set the first couple tracks because of not know where its going to end up but its a challenge that i welcome.
