Gerard Kaplanwaterbury Recording Connection

Chapter 1 1st Lesson- Gerard Kaplan Posted on 2015-05-19 by Gerard Kaplan

Being as new to the recording connection, I was taken by surprise after reading through the first lesson.  I have been recording my own music well over 13 years and had no idea the amount of detail that I'm sure the majority of people don't realize goes into just  sound itself. I'm not going to pretend I found every aspect of the first lesson interesting, but I was amazed by what I did learn.  For example the parts of are ears that play a part of how we interpret sound.  I was also very interested in how as we as people age we become unable to hear sound at certain frequencies.  My favorite part of reading through the first lesson was masking.  Masking, meaning 2 sounds at the same frequency will cancel the other out leaving no sound at all.  Like I said I wasn't interested in the entire lesson, but I did take everything it had to offer as far as learning the way we hear sound.

My first class with Edwin Ramos on the other hand was an amazing experience.   When I showed up he told me to sit tight for a minute because Natasha Nicole, the winner of Telemundo's The Voice was coming any minute to finish a song of her's that Edwin was recording for her.  Me personally, I have never been in the same room as someone who genuinely has an amazing voice; so to me it was incredible.  Edwin showed me how he works with his artists What I learned about him was that he has the vision of their song.  Almost to say he is more concerned about the way it sounds then the artist themselves.  That to me, shows his passion for his work.  He is a true perfectionist and I admire that. I look forward for everything he has in store to teach me in the future. I belive I can learn from him how to become a perfectionist myself.
