Types of microphones are Carbon, Condenser, Dynamic and Ribon. Carbon microphones were among the first created, and create voltage through the use of loosely packed grahules of coal like material, Ribbon microphones use a corrugated piece of metal suspended in a magnetic field, voltage is created through induction. Condenser microphones use a compacitor, voltage is created by the diaphragm changing the distance between two plates. Dymanic microphones use a diagram attached to a moving coil that surrounds a magnet. To capture the clear detail of cymbals condenser microphones should be used. To capture a more punchier sound from drums and guitar or bass amps dynamic microphones should be used. I have worked with Shure sm57/58, Shure PGA52, Shure SM81, Electro Voice RE20, Neumann U87, and AKG Perception.
