VERY-LATE FIRST Blog Post! Posted on 2014-04-01 by Frank Lupariello

Hey everyone,

I'm truly sorry I haven't been blogging any of the happenings, lessons, ideas, etc, throughout the last X chapters, however I'd like to get this going, so let me bring you up to speed:

I've been studying under Edwin Ramos at ER Music in Waterbury, CT.  In the beginning, I only attended once a week, but lately I've been trying to make it up there at least twice or three times a week! If only I lived a little bit closer haha. Regardless, the first few weeks were very exciting, but i found the content in the first few chapters a bit dull, for lack of a better word. It was definitely interesting and could be much more deeply looked into, but the point of the chapters was to obtain but a grasp of the concepts so that I'd understand more of whats behind the hardware and how sound actually works. The chapter that started touching on Microphones was where i was REALLY pulled into the chapter content, and from then on it's been awesome. I couldn't wait to apply my new knowledge and gain some wisdom when I learned about recording and mic placement, etc.

Now I'm at the point were I'm about to recieve Pro Tools. I actually got a new MacPro dedicated as my Music Computer (fast processing, 256gb solid state drive, 8gb ram). I recieved my iLok already, got the trial for HD 11 running in the meantime (waiting on whatever version they send us!), and I have to say I've already seen a huge improvement in my personal recording, production, beat-making, and most of all mixing. Aside from what I already knew, I truly have to thank Edwin and RRF for teaching me what I've learned in the program this far! Edwin has given me some hands-on work on the Kontrol 24 console, which is fun, efficient, and feels professional. I'm about to take the midterm and i feel pretty confident in the first 10 Chapters's content. Now that things are getting interesting as far as engineering goes, I'm about to try to make it up to the studio as much as I can every week.

Anyway, I'll be on top of my blog from now on, so stay posted for post-session thoughts, new ideas, things I've learned, etc!
