Shon HeersinkAkron Recording Connection

One of the things I like most about recording music is the ability to create ideas.    I, for one, never can remember great ideas I might come up with at the piano, (or at least great to me), and the ability to record them is so great.  It is an amazing tool for composition.   You can record an idea that brought tears to your eyes while you wrote it, and then listen to it the next day and decide if it is really good, or a combination of bad pizza and coffee.   While recording, you can also flesh out ideas with keys or strings, and get a better feel for what you are hearing in your head, and knowing if it sounds as good in the speakers as it does in your head!

Recording also allows you to try musical ideas on funky things, like the Hurdy Gurdy, or an electric flute.   I think, often hearing something played back gives a much different perspective than actually playing it.   So, you can record ideas, and listen, and then play with them, flesh them out, and then decide if they are worth pursuing.   You may also get ideas from what you are listening too which will help the piece you are writing to get better.  I think recording provides a cool way to practice composition!

So, my first blog post!     Enjoy, listen to great music, and then go write some of your own!
