Today was an interesting day at the stuio. It is very essential that a producer knows the different kind of mic's , How they work, The pick up patterens and also the typical placement in different miking situations. We went over several examples of a transducers some examples are the human ear, A microphone, A speaker,a phonograph cartridge, An anolog tape head and a guitar pickup. We explained the difference between the types of microphones such as dynamic , Ribbon and cendensor. We also discussed the designs of the different mics and how they are made. After the lesson from the book it was time for some hands on learning. I started drawing the mic setup in the main recording area. The instructor went over the placement of his mics the types and the angle they sit. I learned some of the basics that most condenser mics are ran off of 48 volts phantom power. we learned some characteristics of the cardiod patteren and some of the other pick up patterens. This was very informational i learned the reason he had his different mics and some of his personal prefereces as a engineer. It was very good to learn professional techniques and incorporate them with my own.
