lesson 8 Getting audio into your workstation Posted on 2013-04-30 by Travis Esper

today we talked about the fundumental styles of microphone placemnet in the studio. There are 4 different kinds of miking. distant, close, accent and ambient. These styles are used in a bunch of different ways to catch the creativity of the artist preforming. These are the combination of styles that make up the industry. We talked about the 3:1 rule in miking this is to prevent leakage and phasing. we discussed how to get the brightest sound when miking a pre amp for a guitar.this sound is achieved by directly facing the mic towards the center of the speakers cone. We talked about good habbits in the studio and how everything should be labeled in the software properly. It can get really confussing if this step is ignored. The different channels can add up quickly and it might be difficult for an engineer to remember which one is which. So to keep from confussion a track log is made. This day at the studio was very informative. We talked about how to make things run smoothly with clients and how to stay organized through all the chaos that can be happening around the studio.
