Finishing my second session left me in a little bit of a daze. The world of sound engineering is so much more complex than I thought it would be. However I don't mean this in a bad way, as it only makes me want to learn it all the more. We talked about basic acoustics and how sound, in it's most raw form, is a wave. I really liked how Mr. Orr related a sound wave to a wave in the ocean, and how he equated the two made it very easy for me to understand. We talked about how every wave has a positive and negative, and how a digitalized wave was made up of positive and negative numbers. Each time something went over my head he'd slow down, back track, and help me make sense of all of it. He took me out of the control room and into the actual studio and we just listen to how quiet it was, and it was very quiet indeed. We became so caught up in our conversation that we lost track of time, and my normal two hour session became three and a half hours. For this I am happy, as I only go into the studio once a week. I'm hopefull that I may be able to sit in on one of his recording sessions soon.
