Guerry Magidson JrAtlanta Recording Connection

Five years ago, I found my calling as an executive music producer, backing artists’ production costs, supervising the project to completion and adding to the creative process to the point the artist were asking me for help instead of me making suggestions. The idea of molding artists, gaining their trust, and finishing their vision through from beginning to end is a challenge that I love.

And then I decided to strike out to chase my dream. I started out like anybody else would trying to break into the industry.

Way, way down at the bottom.

Over four years I worked in the trenches of various music studios in Atlanta, including Visions and ATL HD Music Studios, dBs Studios and now the Artist Factory. In the first 2 listed I was the food runner, the studio painter, a janitor, the office secretary and even the assistant to the assistant. All of this was for the chance to sit in with professional producers to watch and learn how they went about crafting records.

During my journey I realized that I was not advancing my career at a pace that I felt was needed to thrive. I felt I had gaps in my technical knowledge base and the lack of regular interaction with industry professionals was holding me back; I was at a career plateau.

Enter the RRFC.

I enrolled the Music Production program to gain a much-needed insight into the world of recording and mixing that I didn't have before. I embraced the school’s model of doing an apprenticeship with a true professional who would take the time to explain the ins and outs, mixing, general interactions with clients and take it to another realm of psychoacoustics.

When I met my mentor Felipe "AudioFlip" Frazier, we sat down and talked about what my goals were and what his experiences were in the music industry over the last 15 years. With that meeting, I knew that I had made the right the choice in choosing RRFC to advance my music career goals.

From assisting sessions with Felipe to him bringing my own artists, the program has given me a brand new appreciation for the craft and the hard work that helps identify the teamwork artists/engineers/mixers/producers to create the sound and direction for records. I have gained new levels of confidence when I speak to potential clients about their projects and gain more when I get to work on the creative side and get much respect from the artists. The last half of my Music Production program helps me convey what I would like an engineer to see that vision through in their technical language.

Through the program and working with Felipe, I have met an up and coming Atlanta artist by the name of Fresh Boi. Fresh has recently performed at SXSW and A3C.

Fresh has brought me on to executive produce his first full-length LP “David Ruffin of Trap. We will release 3 singles starting Labor Day Weekend and drop an LP this Fall.

I've partnered with another of Felipe's students, a talented engineer named Demetrius Milton, who is in the Master's program. He recently opened his own studio Atlanta, and he will be helping Felipe track Fresh Boi's upcoming project.

RRFC has helped take my career to new heights and work with established and hot new professionals. Being able to run sessions and be involved with the entire process has been an amazing experience, proving that no classroom was needed to move my career forward and most of all; I followed my heart and my dreams are coming true!
