Cole Newman\'s Journal Entries: August 2nd + 8th Posted on 2013-08-09 by Cole Newman

Friday August 2nd:

Today I went in to Bowtown with Tara. I showed her some of the tracks I had recorded at home, and she began to show me how to equalize some audio. She showed me some songs she recorded when she was in school, and gave me some guidelines to follow when equalizing. She showed me what frequencies to roll off for specific instruments, and which unwanted frequencies you can remove. Then she let me give it a try in Protools. I equalized a Djembe drum, an acoustic guitar, a bass guitar, and a couple vocal tracks.

Thursday August 8th:

I went into the studio to work with Kuba. He got me to test out all the headphones to make sure they were working, I plugged each of them into the monitoring system to test them one by one. They all worked so I moved on to looking up some videos on Youtube. I looked up a couple How It's Made videos on how to make microphones. I saw one on dynamic microphones, and I watched another on how ribbon microphones are made. I saw a video on how to build a home-made pop filter for a microphone. After that I worked on the assignment in the textbook.
