Monday September 9th:

I went in for a lesson with Tara. She got me to continue working on strip silencing some tracks I had been working on in earlier weeks. I worked on the snare drum track, removing leaking kick drum notes, and some cymbal sound. I had already scoured through the kick drum track to remove other instruments leaking in. After that was finished I went through the drums, applying an EQ to each track. I cut the high-end out of the kick drum track, cut some of the low end on the snare. I boosted a little bit of the upper-mid range in the snare to get more of a crisp pop sound out of it. Then for the overheads I cut some of the low end off, and boosted the high-end by about 3dB to bring out the shimmery sizzle from the cymbals. Next we moved onto the bass and guitars. I cut the high end from the bass guitar, leaving the beefy bass sound. I EQd the rhythm guitar in a similar way because it seemed to be following along the bass notes. The lead guitar was playing a higher pitched funky type of riff, so I cut some of the low end from it. For the vocals we just boosted a little bit of the high-end to make it sound a little more live, and airy. I began to pan the guitars around, separating them enough to hear them each distinctly.

Saturday September 14th:

I went to Bowtown Music to work with Kuba. I ended up doing some work on a song I've been working on lately. I played around with the pan automation of a sound effects pad track that I had added a phaser effect to. I made the track pan from left to the right along with the cycle of the phase. After that I adjusted the panning of all the guitars in the song, giving them some room to breath. I did the same thing with the organs in the song. After I had that song where I liked it I moved on to watching some instructional videos on Youtube about using limiters, soft clipping, and compression plug-ins. (2 and a half hours)
