Chapter 15 Blog - Time Based Effects Posted on 2016-01-26 by Wesley Hagy

It took me a long time to figure out how to use reverb properly, it wasnt until I learned what a return track was that I started using Time based effects on a regular basis. I didnt know that this created a copy of the original signal, allowing the reverb to effect the copy and not the original signal. Once the 2 blend together you get a very rich and spacey effect, depending on the parameters you choose, But it also doesnt swallow the vocal or instrument because the original signal is not being affected by the reverb.

I felt like a kid in a candy store once I figured out how to use time based effects properly, they add so much life and flavor to and otherwise dull production or mix. A little bit of reverb and delay can bring a vocal from ho hum to hol s*&%
