Got to be in on another session for this lesson! Man my mentor is awesome lol. But for automation I was able to sit side by side with my mentor as he worked on some automation for a client. My mentor uses automation quite a bit when it comes to putting the finishing touches on a recording session and reference mix. Automation can add a lot of flavor and character to a song, plus the possibilites of how and when you can automate are nearly endless.
One of my favorite things to do with automation is to use it throughout the song to create interesting and dynamic transitions with the melodies/patterns that I already have in my song. Distorting certain frequencies can create a distraction effect for the listener that grabs back their attention and builds suspense for whats coming next.
