EQing Posted on 2014-05-07 by Jessica Sherman

This past week I learned the basics of EQing which helps a lot with my mix of The Seige. I chose that song to do my mix assignment with because I wasn't a huge fan of the hip hop song and I enjoy this song so it's a good idea that I switch up my taste and not stick to one genre of music. I have gotten pretty familiar with EQ watching Joe and playing around with it for my sine wave assignment so it's cool to put it to use in the song I'm mixing. I didn't see too much go on in the studio this week, I met a new client though. He came in to record a song by himself; he's part of a rap group which is interesting to me because not a lot of people can work really well together and do that sort of thing but Joe was telling me their ideas and what not compliment each other really well so I would like to see that in full effect at some point. Also Joe gave me some good pointers on mixing. Obviously practicing a lot is important but he told me to compare my mixes with those of some of my favorite artists that I listen to most often and are really familiar with their sound so I can figure out how I want mine to sound. So that was super helpful and I'm excited that I'm starting to the hang of it and we'll be closer to being well on my own in a few months!

AutomationPosted by Jessica Sherman on 2014-06-16

Automation was cool to learn because I had been wondering about it before. Joe uses it when he's mixing for things like volume and delays and I didn't quite get what he was doing so it was nice to learn that and put it together... Read More >>
