Lesson 02 Basic Electronics

July 2nd. 2014

I wasn’t nervous throughout the drive to the studio, the first week went well enough to scare the jitters away.  Once i arrived we went straight to the computer to start going over the second lesson.

The second lesson was about basic electronics so we talked about electricity.  The most interesting thing Dan told me was that in old radio stations and studios there was a low frequency hum that the power outlets created that audio equipment would pick up on that audio engineers would base frequencies off of.  He told me that outlets today still give off the frequencies but the technology today is modernized to gauge frequencies without the hum.

I thought the lesson was pretty straightforward and I wasn’t confused over it, i understood a lot of the concepts already.  Although, I never thought about how resistance works, but it makes sense that resistance causes friction and friction ultimately creates heat.

We finished the lesson and I gave Dan a copy of my quiz from the chapter.  We decided to end the day in Pro Tools because Dan wanted to give me a brief introduction into the computer program.  We created a new track and hooked up a MIDI keyboard into the program so i could see how the keyboard works with the program.

I played a song I know on the piano and we basically just messed around with the effects.  That was all I did for the second week and I look forward to the next.
