EDM Vocal Session Posted on 2018-04-02 by Antony "Tony" Beasley

My time spent at the music studio has been great. I have learned a lot and have recieved great hands on experience. My mentor has been a great teacher and has a lot of knowledge that he has shared that applies to multiple fields of audio engineering. My most recent experience was recording female vocals for and EDM type song. My mentor had me set up a Mic in the vocal booth with a pop filter. Normally with bands he will have a plot map made prior to set up but in this case in was not needed. The female we were recording had been working with another engineer for the music composition of her song and as a result my mentor had to import the session from the other engineer. It was cool to see how different engineers work on different parts of the song based on their skill set. The session went well and lasted about an hour. Shadowing my mentor as he worked in pro tools I observed that he used reverb the vocals which is common but in this case seemed to be more apparent given the type of music genre we were recording. All in all it was a great learning experience and helped me gain more understanding of techinques used for a different style of music that I havent had much experience in.
