My first day in the studio was very exciting. I did chapter one on sound and hearing and after doing the quiz i knew what information i lacked so i took it to my mentor. I needed to better understand phase shift. My mentor had notified me when i walked into the studio that we might not get into the lesson plan because there was a gentlman going in to record some steel guitar. Sitting in on my first day at the studio working with a musician was amazing. So we had to prep the studio before this guy came in. During that time my mentor Anthony touched base on the phase shift topic that i had trouble learning. He set up two mics on an amp to demeonstrate how phase worked. With a hands on explanation and i was able to get it. He also showed me mic placement and the difference in sound. He placed 3 SM57 mics in front of the amp: 1 in the center, 1 between the center and edge of the speaker, and the 3rd on the edge. Then he placed another condensor further back from the amp to capture the overall sound. While the the gentleman played his steel guitar Anthony showed me the difference in sound between all 4 mics. So wich mic did we all agree on that had the best sound? the room mic. I was in the studio for about 10 hours and we did 6 songs.
