chapter 18 Acoustics and monitoring 3/11-12/2014 sessions Posted on 2014-05-14 by Heather Henderson

This week I learned many things about the characteristics sound as it travels and collides with different objects.  I learned how to find the optimal listening position.  Soft, rough, porous materials make the best sound absorbers and hard, metallic, flat and dense materials make the best reflective sources.  Bass traps are used to absorb low end frequency and are commonly found in corners of a room.  Foam makes a good absorber and diffuser but does not dampen the sound completely.

March 11- Full session with Fernando's Band. Mic set up on full drum set, Bass, Guitar, accordian/singer, and synth was also (direct route to board).  Learnings: Mic imput list is very important, including cues for headphones.

March12-  Ayez Ismail Session- Bassist and Guitarist played to a track.  They were professional and skilled.  They learned the flow of the song in only a few takes.  Ayez was the producer and recorded the full song on 7 different tracks.  His intention was to piece together the finished product from the 7 tracks.  Great working with Ayez.
