A Vibe that didnt Die Posted on 2013-03-25 by Ryan Carroll

Walking into Harmonie Park for the first time was an absolutely surreal feeling. Walking up those stairs and and just feeling the vibe and the ora about the room as you want into the studio is really an unbelievable feeling. You really cannot describe that type of feeling unless your in a place or have felt a place with as much energy floating in the room, it was an unbelievable place to be. Even going home the night, after i met a fellow student, fred, and learning some new stuff from Paul, i went home and just had so many ideas for new songs, new beats, new everything. I just went home and started writing immediately. Being in a place like that it also just gave me reassurance that im on the right track to doing what i want to do. It gave me so much determination to conquer all the adversity that has been thrown my way and all the people who've said i was stupid for doing my music. or gave me funny looks when i said i wanted to be a music producer/ and an artist. I still remember this one kid in high school who would pick on me constantly and everytime i feel like giving up, i just picture the day when he decides to sit down on his couch and watch the grammy's in his roach infensted, studio apartment, when he s***s his pants because he sees the skinny kid from high school that he used to pick on all the time performing or getting an award. (okay maybe i dramatized the situation a little bit, but you do get the point). Being in Harmonie Park gives me that motivation every time i go, not that i dont have it when im not there, but it definetely makes me want to work harder and harder

The lesson was basically getting used to the environment of the studio and learning a few things as well. On my first day i learned a lot about compressors, lfo filters, pitch correction, and the overall layout of protoolz. We went over a lot of the sound theory stuff, soundwaves, amplitude, decibals, ect. ect. and when we got a lot of the book work out of the way, paul shared a lot about the business side of the music industry and shared his goals and admirations. It was definetely interesting to hear from a professional how a recording studio works. Also, when i first walk in to the studio i met Mark and Brian Pastoria, who were really cool guys very nice and outgoing. It was interesting too. I have been in love with Kendrick Lamar's new album and when i walked in they were kinda talking about the production of that album and kendrick as an artist and me and brian talked for a while about it. It was really a cool experience to meet two guys who are so highly regarded in the music industry and they are more than willing to talk to you about anything especially music which was an absolute treat to talk to those guys about music.

I honestly cannot wait for my next lesson tomorrow absolutely estatic to go back and just feel the energy in that room again, and to continue working harder and harder so i wont have to work a crappy job any more, and can be excited about each day doing what i love to do. And even more exciting to continue working on my own projects and writing my own beats, and my own rhymes and sharing my story. I am so excited to get back at it everyday.....lesson one down the tube.......lesson two im coming after you..............
