Everytime i walk into the studio, i try to be as observant and as spongant (if thats even a word), to absorb as my information and learn as much as i can. i try to make connections, and meet people without being nosey or annoying. nobody likes spamers and nobody likes annoying people, giving you a cd everytime you see them. as most of the time it just ends up in the recycling bin anyway.
Paul went over a lot of stuff in this lesson, and like i said its a lot of information and im just trying to pick up as much as possible and apply it when i can. The concept of GATING was new to me and i found what he showed me to be very useful. When you use gates on certain tracks it can completely change the whole sound of the track. Whether you put a high pass filter with your gate, or reverb with your gate. It can also change the sound of the track in the order you filter them. Putting a reverb above your gate means your gating your reverb, which isnt wrong if thats the sound you want, but if you gate the track first and then put reverb over the gate it can completely change the sound of what your doing. Pretty cool stuff. And that goes with anything, delay, chorus. Automation is still a little confusing to me, but i feel like i'll be able to figure more out with my tutor sessions and once i get my pro toolz.
Also STACKING is very important i have already been doing it but i've never stacked 10 tracks that was pretty new to me. I did not realize that many tracks were laid over each other in a lot of sessions.
Im just trying to soak everything in as i said, and really become a better engineer, producer, musician, and artist. Im working hard everyday working till midnight after i get out of work to become better at all of these.
Cant wait to get back in the studio.
