Today in the workshop we went over the basics of knowing how to record a good quality vocal. We got real detail and knowing how to send signals through the patchbay where everything that you need can be hooked up. We used the chandler pre amp and the avalon channel strip to record the vocals and one of my beats were used for the session. Learn that when compressing vocals its all about how you want it to sound but from my point of view you always want to get your recording right in the middle some where. A good example would be to have you threshold around to -15, your compression/ratio to 3:1 which is read differently by different brands, so its actually good to know what the hell you doing and have knowledge about it, have your attack all the way almost to the left and have your release around pointing up which is about half way. But like I said its all up to you on how you want it to sound and remember to also have the levels around -10 or -6, never have the levels going above -3 which will eventually send you in to the clipping phase. When a recording is clipping, its going to be hard on the ears when turned up loud.
