Lesson 4

In Lesson 4 me and my mentor concentrated on the basics of microphone. We first established that mics, the human ear, speakers and guitar pickup were types of transducers. The two types of mic we discuss were dynamic mic and condenser mics. Although the book describes dynamic mic as microphones that are used for recording loud instruments in a room with other instrument and condenser mis were used for overdubing, we came to the conclusion that this was not actually true. In fact in my first sitting in session, we miked a guitar amp using both a dynamic and condenser mic on tht one amp. This brought us to the "good rule" that  states  that good musicans+good instuments+good profromance+good acoustics+good mics+good placement =good sound. We then discussed different microphone patterns and their effect on the overall sound. We end the session with then only rule for mics in the studio; "as long as you know what the mics they are no rules to mics."
