Week 19 - Impulse and Drum Rack Posted on 2018-07-15 by Kyle Ellis

This week's lesson was on Impulse and Drum Rack. Luckily Alex from The Abstract had already showed me how to set up my own drum racks. For some reason I still find myself just sampling from Splice and dragging it right in my project as its own instrument; it seems to be the quickest for my workflow.

This week I continued working on my Slow Hands cover and tuned the vocals at the studio. Unfortunately my time in the studio was limited, so I did not finish tuning the harmonies and I still need to vocalign them.

On Saturday, I brought in and recorded an acoustic guitar/vocal session, which was very nice. I got the opportunity to record in the Think Tank, which is the larger room at the abstract with a huge sound board and equipment/pre-amps built into it. I'm looking forward to mixing/mastering the track to see how good it sounds. I'm also excited to continue to run sessions by myself as it shows the studio I'm able to navigate through their gear, and I'm meeting artists and am getting more and more connected within the music industry. My goal is to be the top intern at the studio in terms of quality music production and bringing people into the studio to help build revenue for The Abstract Studios.
