Week 20 - Sound and Hearing Posted on 2018-07-23 by Kyle Ellis

This week's chapter was on sound and hearing, which was very interesting to learn. Reading about air molecules, atomosphereic pressure, psychoacoustics, and the anatomy of our ears was very enlightening!

During this week's lesson, we worked on tuning the cover vocals of slow hands in Melodyne 4, which has really come a long way. Unfortunately I forgot to use the Vocalign plugin at the studio, so I'll still need to do another final tweak to the vocals this week before it is completely finished. In addition to that, we added some more octaves on some of my exhale pads and added more synths to help beef up the chorus to help emphasize the hook of the song. I will be providing the final mix and master this week so I will have a finished product for my next lesson.

Today eight students went into the studio to assemble a drum set, we set up 16 microphones, set levels, and then tore down the gear. It was pretty cool gaining hands on experience in that realm of audio as my production brain has much to learn in that area. I am also looking forward to our next student group session as we are doing a remix competition between the students so I will be able to showcase my production skills to everyone.
