Lesson 13 Recording Connection Posted on 2013-07-30 by Alejandro Cruz

Lesson 13 began at 12 noon ended around 5 pm. The lessson was on compressor's was a ral intersting lesson a bit difficult but Donny helped out alot. This time me and Donny worked in studio a again there was a few hip hop artist coming by rite after our lesson so me and Donny ran threw the lesson pretty fast. Donny began to show me how he would use compressor's which was a good for me knowing how someone proffesional uses their plug-ins. There are many ways to use compressor's and each can make any track sound better. We began to go over ratio which is the amount of volume control being applied to the sound, then Donny showed me how deesser's are used especially with vocal to make and reduce the 'sss' the trick is finding the frequncy of that 's', the basic function of a compressor is to increase a significant sound and make it louder. We ended our lesson just in time, the hip hop artist had just got there and i had asked them if it was okay if i was able to sit in their session they said it cool. THe song they were recording was called 'Space Flow' had a real catchy beat. It was intresting to see how hip-hop was recorded it was much simpilar than working with a band. They were able to record the whole track and even got the mix done at the end the track sounded really good the artists were really happy with Donny's work. We set up next weeks lesson which is on time based reverb and echo delay really looking forward to it.
