Chapter 18 Blog. Posted on 2015-12-10 by Andy Brisino

This chapter was all about the acoutics of a room and how they worked. The lesson though me about all sorts of different rooms create specifically for sound engineering and different kinds of ways to manipulate the sounds of a room. In this chapter it also explained how you should have your monitoring station set up to get the best listening results. When i went in with my mentor, Michael Blum, he was telling me abou how you could trap all the sounds in the room to get the best results when mixing. Michael said that it's best that you have it so no sound bounces back towards your ear so that it doesn't effect the mix. Michael also said that it's best that the room doesn't sound too dead because then it will effect how the mix will sound outside of the studio. Then Michael also talked about how you could build cheap sound traps if you really wanted, and also mentioned that you really don't need to get all fancy with a studio, as long as the room sounds good and you're able to get a good mix that you're good. Michael talked about the set up for your monitors as well, he said that it's best to have everything equally spaced from each other as to not get any bleed or phasing issues. Michael taught me a lot about this lesson.
