OC Recording Connection Ch.9 Posted on 2014-11-28 by Philip Bustamante

Tues. Nov. 25th at 4:00 pm. I went intothe studio where my mentor and I reviewed about Lesson 9 that includes the following:

Everything in detail about Pro Tools basics. How to record, how to edit and delete inserts, as well as saving them.

We talked about what type of options you have in edit mode such as slip mode, grid mode, shuffle mode, and spot mode. Grid mode being the most used and important out of all of them. Slip mode having no snaps to the lines on the grid. Spot mode and how it slides into the bars. Shuffle mode how it allows you to edit, copy, cut, and paste clips as well as how it's easy to delete everything. Those were the different kinds of edit modes. We also went over edit tools which you use in everyday Pro Tools use. The zoomer key which zooms in or out. The trimmer tool which shortens or lengthens a clip, which have two variations being TCE( time compression expansion) and loop. The selector key which allows you to highlight clips or sections for editing. The grabber key which is a tool for selecting entire clips. The scrubber key which plays forward or backwards. The pencil key which allows you to draw in a number of different parameters such as waveform editing, tempo editing, and automation editing. I learned about inserts and how there's three different kinds which are instrument that relates to the midi signal, signal processor which includes EQ, guitar rig, etc., and visual representation. We also talked about I/O setups and how important they are because it allows detailed routing of your inputs and outputs. My mentor created a beat so I was allowed to edit and cut it using the modes that are mentioned above.

In conclusion, I'm learning what Pro Tools has to offer and the different modes and functions it has. My mentor and I chopped, cut, and edited a song on Pro Tools. As for those things I continue to learn different things and options that Pro Tools has to offer. I keep working on more beats with software such as Pro Tools and Maschine which will get me better as a music producer with more and more time and reps. I enjoy being in the studio and continuing to learn every time I'm there. My confidence level continues to grow and that's all I can ask for because this allows me to be more comfortable in the studio. I continue to improve and really feel good about myself, I can't wait to see what's next for me.
