OC Recording Connection Ch.18 Posted on 2015-03-17 by Philip Bustamante

Thurs. Mar. 12th at 3:00 pm. I went into the studio where my mentor and I reviewed Lesson 18 that includes the following:

Everything in detail about acoustics and monitoring. How acoustics is important to producing because it effects the sound by reflecting off many angles from walls, windows, etc. We talked about absorbers and diffusers and how they help balance the sound out. Having bass traps also helps by balancing out the bass so you could still hear the highs along with the bass. We talked about how you should be positioned when mixing. Also how monitors (loudspeakers) are important that's how we hear the sound so it's important to have them positioned the same distance from left to right so the sound is balanced because you don't want the sounds to reflect on one side more than the other because the sound will be off key. We went over amplitude in terms of a periodic wave. As well as wavelengths and how they require larger absorbers due to the wave being up to 12 ft. I learned diffraction and diffusion and what they do as far as acoustic energy and lastly, we reviewed and talked abouit frequency and how it plays into this.

This chapter was very important and educational teaching me what goes on when it comes to acoustic energy. It's important to know because knowing about acoustics because it involves the sound that you're putting out and you want to have too much bass or too many highs or you can ruin the song. So learning acoustics along with the other critical points I've learned in the previous chapters will help me and go a long way for me. I continue to learn and grow in the studio making it an exciting experience for me now and in the future.
