OC Recording Connection Ch.12 Posted on 2015-02-07 by Philip Bustamante

Wed. Jan. 7th at 3:00 pm. I went into the studio where my mentor and I reviewed Lesson 12 that includes the following:

Everything in detail about mix theory. How mixing is a place where technical skill and creativity come together especially when it comes to creating a song. I learned about how the mixing process works by balancing frequencies, instruments, effects processing, etc. Also how labeling is important when it comes to identifying your tracks such as color coding, using markers, etc. We went in detail about levels and panning and how those traits are used in a mix, how automation is used by balancing the faders for a low or high quality sound. We went into detail about effects and how it changes the sonic characteristics of an audio signal and giving the track a much different and interesting sound. How effects are magnified during the mastering process and what their purpose is. Generally mixing is a very important process when recording which involves alot of creativity and skill.

I continue learn everyday in the studio. Pro Tools is getting easier for me to do what I need to do when it comes to making a track. From making a simple beat to now mixing is a pretty cool experience. My mentor continues to stress about file management and how important it is. With no saved file theres no saved track which erases your progress and you don't want that. My experience here is going well and I hope to continue learning and progressing everyday in the studio.
