OC Recording Connection Ch.13 Posted on 2015-02-07 by Philip Bustamante

Wed. Jan. 14th at 3:00 pm. I went into the studio where my mentor and I reviewed Lesson 13 that includes the following:

Everything in detail about equilization or EQ. I learned how an EQ cuts and boosts frequencies. I learned how to do that by learning the different band filters and how they work. How the low pass filter allows low frequencies to pass below the cutoff frequency and how the high pass filter allows the high frequencies to pass above the cutoff frequency. We also talked about the peaking filter and how the signal can be boosted or cut from the midpoint opposite of the shelving filter which can be applied on either side of the audio spectrum. We talked about parametric and graphic EQ. How parametric EQ lets you adjust most or all of its parameters and how graphic EQ uses vertical sliders to represent the frequencies that can be adjusted. EQ is a very important aspect of recording especially when your looking for that cleaner sound.

This was a very educational lesson for me. My mentor showed me alot about EQ and how it works on Pro Tools 11. I continue to learn new things everyday and EQ is another example of it. I continue to gain growth and confidence in the studio and I look forward to the challenges ahead.
