OC Recording Connection Ch.14 Posted on 2015-03-02 by Philip Bustamante

Tues. Feb. 3rd at 3:00 pm. I went into the studio where my mentor and I reviewed Lesson 14 that includes the following:

Everything in detail about dynamic signal processing and compression. I learned how compression lowers the high points of the track to meet up with the low points somewhere in the middle to get that consistent volume. We call it upward and downward compression. We also talked a little bit about limiting which works by setting a limit on how the loud the sound can be. We into detail about the different parameters of a compressor such as the threshold, attack, ratio, and release which are very important. My mentor showed me what happens when you adjust each of them, making the volume sound louder and crisper than the previous volume. So in simple terms compression is an important and critical process in mixing and processing.

My mentor let me mix and chop up a beat he created using compression on Pro Tools 11. It was quite a learning experience. I continue learning more about making beats and creating that perfect soundwith EQ and now compression. I continue to enhance my learning in the world of music production and engineering. It is an exciting experience and I continue to learn everyday. The more experience and technicalities I learn about music production such as EQ and compression the more confident I am about making music. I've learned so much and can't wait to se what's next.
