Time based effects can also make or break a record. In today's music you can hear timed based effects in almost every popular song on the radio. While timed based effects are an necessity, they have to be used properly in order to deliver a sounds that is attractive to the ear. Using too much reverb is a common mistake that beginner engineers make often and it is not attractive at all. It a process and it takes time to understand what type of sound clients are looking for because too much effect can run a client away pretty quickly and we don't want that at all.
