Michael JakubiakMilwaukee Recording Connection

week 15 / 16 Posted on 2016-12-22 by Michael Jakubiak

So many tools in the tool box ,  I have so much to learn yet , but feel I have been and am still being steered in positive directions by my mentor Dan . I've been told keeping it simple is usually the best plan of action . I also know that I have very powerful editing tools at my disposal .. just because you can doesn't mean you should though . I am still trying to find my way through this decision making process and I would imagine it is a learning curve that takes longer than 20 weeks if it even ever stops at all ( it doesn't ) ..  I turned in the chapter 12 mix project  and I know it could have been better . I did not listen to the actual sample mix at all til the very end because I did not want to make it sound like that . I wanted to create something different . It's for learning anyway right? That said , Dan thought it had good points but I needed some work in a few areas still ... I work on many of these projects from my home set up . Sometimes the studio reveals flaws not noticed on my speakers . We talked about the importance of real quality equipment ( totally understanding that of course but many people that don't have the advantage of the nicest stuff work with what they have ..  and if you're thinking about taking this course or are an aspiring musician , this is something you will learn very quickly )   ---   Anyway ,  I began the chapter 16 MIDI project and feel like that's going ok . I've also been working on other mixes downloaded from course and things Dan tosses my way . I have tried my hand at many genres of music to help grasp the concepts of what I have learned so far .  This morning I sat in for a few hours on a drum tracking session . It was cool to see that the sound barriers I made for the studio were put into use and working quite well .. Music is just cool man .... very soon in my life I will be making a transition and I will be spending way more time continuing to learn about and making music .
