My past several sessions in the studio have been great- I started by shadowing the asistant engineer as he patched mic's according to the signal path plan, and learned how to set up the studio's headphone system.
The next time I went in, I helped patch, and the time after that I was responsible for setting up the headphones myself.
Lately when I've gone in, I have had hands on experience with live recording sessions, helping to patch, set up mic's, and tear down/clean up after the sessions.
It's great to get the repetition, and I'm also getting to see and hear the microphone choices the engineers employ.
