Sean SiroisMontreal Recording Connection

Week 1 at the Sound Module Posted on 2014-08-27 by Sean Sirois

For the first week of my Recording Connection experience, I was introduced to all the gear of the studio and all the basics of recording. My mentor Fern went over all the gear (compressors, EQs, Reverb and Delay, old school tape decks and soundcards, mic's and so on) he had at his disposal and what purposes they serve. He and I share the view that the Analog warmth of sound is unlike anything else. We looked at The mixer, all the pre-amps that were connected to it and tested out the dynamic range of a few studio monitors. I learned all about sample rates and why they are important and about fundamental aspects of recording like proper pre-work before a session. Tomorrow I will be helping set up my first ever concert and will get my first taste of live audio engineering. I can't wait.
